Metal utensils wreck a non-stick surface, and most plastic spatulas have a thick leading edge that will not slide under anything cleanly. This one is carved to shape by hand and the front edge is taken down thin, so it gets under the food and leaves the pan alone.

That thin edge is the point, and it is also the reason this is a lifting and turning tool rather than a scraper. If something is stuck to the bottom of a pan, use something else to get it off.
